Introduction

Glenfiddich 21 year old is a well-known scotch whisky around the entire world. It is one of the most expensive fine-aged whiskies produced around the globe. It also falls in the category of the best-selling single malt whisky in the world. It has also been awarded with many famous awards along with the awards for International Spirit Challenge.
The William Grant & Sons of Scottish Burgh in Dufftown of Moray is the manufacturer of this single-malt scotch whisky. The manufacturer also named the liquor as “Glenfiddich” which, in Scottish Gaelic, means “valley of deer” and set the product’s logo as a stag.

History

In 1886, William Grant & Sons established the Glenfiddich Distillery at the Fiddich river’s valley in Dufftown of Scotland. The product was launched in the market on 25th December of 1887 for the first time. In 1920, with the prohibition on liquor in the US, the Glenfiddich got a golden opportunity to expand its supply chain and secure a strong market position. It was one of the very few liquor manufacturers that had permission to keep producing. 

In 1060s and 1970s with the great depression going on, the manufacturing company started doing advertisement campaign to expand its business across various countries to stay in business. With their continuous persistence and hard works, the single-malt Scotch whisky became one of the best-selling whiskies across 180 countries with a very high price. The production of this whisky is alone responsible for 35% sales of single malts.

Production process

The Glenfiddich Distillery is the only manufacturer of all the supply of Glenfiddich 21 year old Whisky.
The whiskey belongs to the single malt category, which means it is distilled using the pot still distillation process at only one distillery. The main raw ingredient of the whisky is a mash of malted barley. The swan-neck-shaped and made up of copper pot stills are usually smaller than the pot stills used at other distilleries. Though the pot stills are relatively smaller, it still has a bowl capacity of 13,000,000 Ls of spirits. For maturing the whisky 3 main types of casks are used:

  • Caribbean Rum casks
  • Spanish Sherry butts
  • American Bourbon Whisky barrels

After the sprit is matured, it is diluted with tobbie Dhu spring’s purified water and put into the whisky bottles.

The Glenfiddich Scotch Whisky is mainly of 12 types depending on the years for which it is kept for maturing. But the 12-years, 15-years, 18-years and 21-years old whiskies are the core types. Among these, the Glenfiddich 21 year old is the most desired one

Superior production process of the whisky:
